Corruption makes 50 people happy but puts 5 million people in agony and penury.
Corruption is a form of dishonesty or criminal activity undertaken by a person or organization entrusted with a position of authority, often to acquire illicit benefit, or, abuse of entrusted power for private gain. Corruption in Nigeria is woven into the fabric of the society. Corruption in its many forms has become a norm in the country. As a matter of fact, people engage in corruption to survive in our dear country. Corruption can be seen at every level, sector, and sphere in Nigeria. Corruption is more or less a culture and the upright are seen as deviants.
Our Children are the future, we cannot afford to let this cycle of moral decadence and greed continue. It is said that charity begins at home, the training of our future leaders must be carried mainly by the parents. Parents must instill in their children moral uprightness, teach them to shun shortcuts and embrace honesty. The parents should enlighten them on the ills of corruption, let them know that corruption is the reason we are the poorest country in the world, tell them we have enough human and natural resources but they are all insufficient because of corruption.
Educate your children that corruption makes you and your family happy but puts tears in the eyes of generations. Enlighten them on different forms of corruption starting from exam malpractices, stealing from classmates, etc. You should also give your children practical examples of the effects of corruption, tell them it is the reason they have dilapidated classrooms, cannot eat three times a day or get adequate healthcare.
Educate your children that corruption makes you and your family happy but puts tears in the eyes of generations.
Discipline is a major catalyst, punish them very well when they do something wrong so that the law won’t have to do it for you. The alarming and painful thing is that those corrupt politicians satisfy their parents and by that time, they won’t be able to caution them because they rely totally on them. Now you have the authority, time, strength and finance to train them, please do it diligently because you are preparing a global citizen for the world.
Teach your children unity, harmony, and coexistence, don’t expose them to the usual tribalistic and prejudiced ideas and sentiments. Let them understand that no matter the ethnic groups, religion, skin color or race we are all the same. Educate them on the benefits of unity and the disaster its absence caused, by citing the Nigerian civil war, world wars, etc. Teach them to respect others for who they are and teach them to respect other people’s opinions. Help them learn how to make their points without shunning or depriving others of freedom of expression.
Service to humanity should become a watchword, not service to the friends or family because everyone will die at one point or the other but humanity is what will remain. Corruption makes 50 people happy but puts 5 million people in agony and penury. The legacy one leaves is very important and your legacy is the kind of citizens you put into the society. Even if the society we live in does not reward honesty, please let us do our best, to be honest in dealing with and teaching our children because that is the only way to begin a new trend and change the narrative of Nigeria. ChildrenShunCorruption. God bless Nigeria
