Why do some men work while others sleep? Why is there one king yet many servants? But then mama said to me It is the way of the world It is the way of the world It is the way of the world Why is there so much suffering? Why is there so much pain? Why is there so much wickedness? And yet they say it is the way of the world Now as an adult, I see I see that the world is not as it may seem Black or white Big or small The world goes round and round All the way Because truly, it is the way of the world. I say it’s emotional because a coursemate decided to write this lovely poem for my Blankpaperz. I especially love these lines:
So many stories to tell
And so many secrets to share….
And I with feeble and quaking hands
Will write to fill in the vacant Blank Papers.

The optimist sees the possibility in impossibility, while the pessimist sees the impossibility in possibility. What drives a man to success is his belief system. If he always believes in negativity, then he is bound to fail, but a man with a positive thought is a meter closer to success. There is nothing man (both male and female) cannot do. There is nothing our hands cannot create, you can only put a full stop to your action when you are determined to end at that point. A man that is optimistic has a very solid mind, but a lazy fellow wine and dine with pessimism. Sometimes our expectation always turns out to be unrealistic, but however, one required to fail in order to stand solidly on the foundation of success…So the choice is yours, either to be a pessimist or optimisT! Only years before, she was a giant among her peers, Now life spears her to drown her in tears. Just last year, mama got married again. It wasn’t her choice, her children’s choice who she dates. She’s had several marriages before her teen. So He left peacefully for a Papa to come in Not all of us loved Papa at first. Most of us still don’t. Emeka wanted to leave. Yusuf wanted to stay, Kolade didn’t care. And for Okon, well, that one didn’t have a say. “He plans to make mama a widow” “If only he stays at home, he is always visiting his friends” All my brothers—mama’s many children—had something to say. Mama’s babies would lie staring at her sagging breasts. For Papa has sucked everything he could yet Mama waits, Waits hoping Papa returns with the change He’d promised. Hoping that Little Ekpeyong eats at home or…

So many people assume that true love is what we see in films and on television. In Hollywood movies, heroine and the idol satisfy, drop in love, combine ultimately to reside happily after and possess a receding. For example, at Valentine’s Day, love is measured by how many diamonds, flowers, greeting cards, and chocolates are bought for the loved one. Girls particularly focus on their physical look with Americans spending more than $12 billion a year in cosmetic procedures. Sure these processes may bring a superficial, fleeting kind of love, but it’s not the avenue to genuine, lasting, love that is religious. Growing up people asked why I liked to smile the way I did. Upper gums visible, upper and lower teeth visible, cheekbones high and eyes almost squinting. So I thought it was bad to smile that way. I felt awkward every time I unconsciously smiled or laughed. “Mira you, you’ll laugh and open all your teeth, ” my friends used to tell me in secondary school—I’m laughing as I remember this. Then I made the mirror my home and began to practice How to Smile. I tried to smile without my teeth showing. I tried to smile and let only my upper teeth show while trying to avoid my gum from being visible. I even tried to smirk but ah! All these were a waste of time. The awkward feeling even became worse when someone told me how big my nose became each time I smiled. The agony! Why? Oh…

Sometimes I wonder Do they care like I do? Do they notice my absence? Do they remember me when they pray? If I was taken away from this world… Would the tears be real? Would the tributes come from their hearts? Would they miss me? And then I ponder some more Do they know how much I care? Do they know what they mean to me? Do they know how often I pray for them? If they were taken away from this world… Do they know how much I’d weep? Do they know how much that would hurt me? Do they know how much I’d miss them? By Nten Mpama
