Queendom: Herstory
When she woke up that morning, the biggest smile she’d ever had that week fell across her heart. Everything about the morning seemed so fresh and dazzling—best of all it was drizzling. She sat up and looked out through her window. Dark clouds, blue sky, sun hiding behind the clouds. She smiled another big smile. You see, that day, she wasn’t going to let all the hurt she’d been feeling get to her anymore. So she got down on her knees, by her bedside and said a little unusual prayer. He said they couldn’t be together anymore. It had hurt and still did hurt but like I’d said earlier too, You see, that day, she wasn’t going to let all the hurt she’d been feeling get to her anymore. She was going to build back her Queendom, once again. Mirabelle Morah
Life Behind the Pen
Sometimes i get afraid of being called a poet Because i feel am way below standard I feel my words are yet literally sterilized enough to fit into the category of poetry Sometimes the pen feels so heavy like a Weightlift Paper seems hard like template and ink redundant to spill out I google for words and inspiration from the poetic world but then i remember my literal subscription of consistency is expired Sometimes i write in pages and i end up trashing them because i know i could better The weather sometimes becomes a determinant for a flawless or flawed piece Being a word smith stimulates the brain to a 24hrs in action How they term me mad a moment they see a pen glued to the tip of my ears They say am synonymous to a carpenter How am always lost fidgeting my phone once a line drops…

There’s Got to Be More
We are tired of the status quo There has got to be more to life than Us Us Us School School School Work Work Work There has got to be more to life than our eyes can meet We are tired of contemplating what People would Say Say Say We would rather think of what God God God Has to say And do what’s Right Right Right Life is too big to be all and only about our selfish interests.
Behind Bars
Behind Bars Bad Alone, Worse En-masse Alone; Cold as Stone, En-masse, hot as Mars. Behind Bars No Leave, No Pass All We Can See is an Imagination of the Grass. Behind Bars In Here is our Class, At least we’ve learned to Pin Our Ass Behind Bars Was the Fault his’, Was it hers? No One Seemed To Have Looked Through the Glass. Behind Bars The Walls Echo Our Bass zzz! The Floor hard and the Gates Not Brass. Behind Bars Days run like fast Cars And nights lie still like a Lifeless Mattress. Behind Bar I Put Behind, My Past, And I Look Beyond The Stars. A Poem by Bentem Joseph
“Tomorrow I Will Fight Again”
We had a little gist with our parents yesterday and they reminded me of my very mischievous childhood days. One interesting memory was when I was in primary 2, I came back home with scratch marks on my face. I’d gone to fight my elder brother’s class mates in primary 5 When mum asked me me what happened I told her, I was beaten but ‘I Will Fight Again Tomorrow’ – And I did. That’s life for you: You’re beaten only if You remain on the ground. You’re Beaten if You do nothing about yesterday’s adversity. You’re Beaten if You accept defeat. I took up The #30 days challenge last month But I wasn’t able to finish because I didn’t feel like writing on the last day of The Challenge. … But I’ve got to get back to Unfinished Business. You may have dropped out of school – fight again…
And While We Slept …
I was there when they came to take him away. The soldiers in uniform. My mother screamed and wailed as her friend Ugboaku tried to restrain her. The aged men in our kindred all gathered in our compound as they heaved their shoulders up and down, shook their heads, and kept looking up at the sky as though seeking answers from their chi. My father remained unperturbed. His countenance remained blank and no one could tell what he had on his mind. Just like him, I was indifferent. I felt my mother was exaggerating the seriousness of the situation. My father was going to be a soldier fighting for our new Jerusalem. I wondered why that should call for mourning. The soldiers who stood by the truck waiting for my father to sit in the back before they would zoom off raising dust that could blind anyone looked smart. Their…
The Writers’ Pain
If I never get heartbroken I would never understand what it feels like to once love and still desire a love long gone. If we never get depressed, we wouldn’t be able to spin out images of death and angels intertwined, making love together in the 11th heavens. So, we give ourselves wholly to love, We set our hearts to sail and watch them get ship wrecked, So we can write about the storm. Sometimes, we stay too long in the pain. Mirabelle Morah
Aphrodite Awakens
He awoke the sleeping Aphrodite in you For years, you have tried to suppress it Four years, you have tried to tame it Fourth year, he awoke this sleeper in you. Now all you can think of is him The lover in you wants him Pity—you have loved him more than God Before him you are free No façades, just you But why awake this beast in you if he isn’t ready to stay, Forever. What Makes Life, Life?
What makes the gods thunder with laughter? What brings the Devil to tears? What makes love hurt? What makes evil geniuses tickle with such brain power? What makes love break people— Shouldn’t it strengthen? What makes us relax when we watch the moon? What brings the sky to tears? What makes the heart long for lovers long gone? Why does music drive the mass crazy? What makes the tiger weep? What makes the birds anxious? What truly makes us humans? What makes life, life? Mirabelle Morah
Yesterday: You Hurt Her
You said you would miss her She said she knew you would You said you were horny And she asked if that was all you thought about her It pains me so much to write that YOU HURT HER Your planet revolved around her She was the axial force that kept you in place You treasured her but still YOU HURT HER She asked if she were your sex object or symbol She wanted to mean so much more in your eyes She wanted you to see her as a gazelle by the spring side Graceful loving and breathtaking She wanted you to treat her like a woman With respect and dignity But yesterday YOU HURT HER Mirabelle Morah
My Muse
Who am I when the muse to my music is gone? What do I do when I strain to hear your voice— soothing as the rushing calmness of a waterfall. It’s all I want to hear all day and all night long, It’s you I want to speak with every painful second that passes by. You, my muse, are the only music my soul Wishes for. Mirabelle Morah
A Giving Man
A Giving Man is a Winning Man An open palm Attracts God’s Hand A giving man put smiles on Many Faces That’s why He gets Favours From Home and Oversees He gives out, He doesn’t Hold back Ever Heard of, ‘Giver Never Lack? His thoughts are towards them that have Nothing And after Him, Blessings come Hunting Giving is not a spiritual gift, it’s an attitude you should develop If God didn’t give His Son, I wonder how we’d cope The claws of the Law would have torn us Raw Behind closed doors, life wouldn’t worth much living for Now giving come in many ways And it’s a principle you can Bank on – Always! It comes in the form of offering ,caring, Sharing, even loving. However I want to talk about Tithing When you pay your tithe You shine like the light You’ll chew more than you can bite…
