The Writers’ Pain
If I never get heartbroken I would never understand what it feels like to once love and still desire a love long gone. If we never get depressed, we wouldn’t be able to spin out images of death and angels intertwined, making love together in the 11th heavens. So, we give ourselves wholly to love, We set our hearts to sail and watch them get ship wrecked, So we can write about the storm. Sometimes, we stay too long in the pain. Mirabelle Morah
What Makes Life, Life?
What makes the gods thunder with laughter? What brings the Devil to tears? What makes love hurt? What makes evil geniuses tickle with such brain power? What makes love break people— Shouldn’t it strengthen? What makes us relax when we watch the moon? What brings the sky to tears? What makes the heart long for lovers long gone? Why does music drive the mass crazy? What makes the tiger weep? What makes the birds anxious? What truly makes us humans? What makes life, life? Mirabelle Morah
Why Should We Even Care?
Don’t you just want to do stuff and not care what others would say? Don’t you just want to leave the house with those comfortably loose free clothes and not care how styleless you’d look. You won’t even care about the saying that looking good is good business, all you care about is feeling good and comfortable in your own skin. Don’t you just want to be very Frank and tell Sandra off, tell Duke No, tell your boss your mind, tell Emeka you have a crush on him, tell your dad you need more money and tell Tobi she looks amazing ? Don’t you just want to cry in church and serve God without minding what people would say? Don’t you? Why do we even have to care so much what others say? By Mirabelle Morah
To Nne’m
To Nne’m Today doesn’t have to be momma’s day for me to celebrate you, cause I’d celebrate you everyday. I’ve read that the older we grow, the more we realize that we have to respect our mothers. Nne’m, I respect you so much. When I think about you I remember how strong a woman you are. Everything you’ve gone through, every time I’ve hurt you, family’s disappointed you, friends have let you down but you’ve still been so strong. If I were in your shoes, mom, I don’t think I’d be able to tolerate myself just as you have. I know I’m so much of a pain, I know I could be impatient, I know how argumentative and annoying I can get with you, I may not be the best but yet you treat me like am over-the-top-amazing. I love it when you tell me that I’d go places, I…
I Saw You
My mind was in its usual state, far away from my body. All I could think of was 12pm! 12pm and I hadn’t done my morphology assignment yet. I walked as fast as my feet could fly so I could catch up with my colleagues in the copying—sorry, resource room. I felt a gentle brush, or was it a pinch on my arm? I can’t recall. Then I looked back and saw a silhouette. You turned and smiled. My lips smiled but my brain screamed 12pm! Now, as I seat here, 2am, my mind in its rightful place. I am suddenly smiling. Smiling because I remember that I saw you. Written by Mirabelle Morah
What’s Life?
I’ve lived a good part of my life envying people. It was crazy back then you know, just wishing I could live their lives, wishing I could enjoy like they did, having low self-esteem. But all that ended a couple of years ago. The closest I’ve been to having low self-esteem of late, was yesterday, watching my in-laws do stuff, watching them behave fab! Anyway we were more fab in our own way. I’ve seen that there’s no use envying some other person’s life. Shet! Whys?! Everyone has problems. Yes it’s true I wish to live a better life but it doesn’t mean that I want to live in someone else’s shoes. No, not Michael Jackson’s, not Obama’s and most definitely not Beyonce’s, but mine. Everywhere and everyday people are hustling and struggling. I stay in my father’s house and complain about loads of stuff. “Life is about helping people…
